“The Land Stand” God..

April 30, 2009
If you cannot spell movie titles correctly, especially the one directly related to the movie you are currently reviewing, then it’s time for a new job. Hopefully the one that doesn’t involved paying attention to certain important details, like defusing bombs, or air traffic control.

Disappointing, at best.

So far my foray in using InStockTrades has not shed a positive light on the online graphic novel stores. Despite the massive amount of promotions I see and hear around my favorite comics websites and podcasts, and also their customer reviews raving about how wonderful their service is, I am at all neither happy, nor impressive with what they are doing with my order.

It’s been almost a full week, since I ordered my graphic novels on their website, and according to online tracking, my order is still hasn’t been shipped, and it’s still in the pending stages. After a couple of days of waiting, I decided to email them in concerns to what’s going with my order. Not to mention the fact that it took them over two days to response back, they said there’s none in stock for one of my orders. I understand it’s hard to expect every single item to available in hand to be shipped, but it would have been nice for the propertiors of the store to have the courtesy to email me the status of my order, and their reason for the delay.

Shame. Like it or not, according to the response, they are suppose to get a restock of one of the novels today, and hopefully they will ship it as soon as possible.

God, I just want to say, this is probably the last and only time I’m going use this service and will definitely go back to Amazon.com for the future. Since they are more willingly enough to get the order together and shipped within twenty fours hours, and also have the business sense to keep the customer informed of any problems. Sorry Instocktrades, you just lost a customer, and I will not recommend you to anyone I know.

“Do the my bad” Who talks like that?

I can’t tell what’s worst: Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele tries to be hip with the slang lingos from the early 90s, or failing completely in his attempts to do so, and instead sounding likes nails slowly scratching down on a chalkboard.

Review: Batman Year One.

April 29, 2009

It’s been awhile since I read Batman Year One. I think the first time I read it was when I was in 8th grade during my visits to Barnes and Nobles. And during that time, I thought it was pretty good, but since I just speed read it, I didn’t take the time to apprecaite how truly wonderful Frank Miller’s depiction of Batman really was.

I recently bought myself a copy, and reread on the subway ride home. And oh man, it’s really good. David Mazzucchelli’s art works exceptionally well. Illustrating Batman, and the basic mood is more than just detail action as Jim Lee did in Hush, but appreciate Batman is pretty much a noir story; with emphasizes with the use of shadow and darkness. Kind of reminds me of what Michael Lark did with Daredevil.

Even though the story is Bruce Wayne’s first year as Batman, and him learning his mistakes on the fine arts of crime fighting, to me this more a truer representation of what Batman – as a character – is. None of the emphasize on his array of gadget in his disposal, nor on the diverse cast of crazy villains haunting the streets of Gotham. None. Zero. Nada. In my understand of the character of the Batman, it’s pretty much Sherlock Holmes in a batsuit, trying to clean up the Gotham from the gangs and organized crime, to the corrupt public officials in the city government. If he has to used his gadgets to achieve his goal, so be it. But it doesn’t take way the fact that Batman uses his persona as the Dark Knight, and his intellect to solve crime first is the most important weapon in his arsenal.

Frank Miller deserves all the heap of praise from this. And of course, many many more.

We don’t make fun of Florida enough these days

April 29, 2009
But despite the whole massive amount of problems we have in the country, ranging from the low employment rate to the lack of affordable healthcare for many Americans, the Florida State Senate felt it was their imperative, and their duty as public officials to passed a bill declaring a third degree felony to anyone who has sex with an animals.

I would really love to see what the Florida State Senate’s definition of sex with animals would be. Would it considered to be with full on penetration, or simple foreplay with hugs and kisses? Cause I know alot of people who are extremely, and possibly give over the top display affection to their household pets, that might give the authorities of Florida Police’s reasonable suspicion that “Junior here is having a bit too much fun with Spot “.

Unless I’m mistake the only epidemic I see in the news for the past couple of days is the Swine flu, not the screwing of swines. Maybe that’s what the constituents want in Florida, I don’t know. Then again, I’m a northeastern liberal who am to judge, everyone needs love now and then. Regardless of how gross it may look and sound.

Lesser of Two Evils.

Even with the news of Senator Specter switching his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat, I’ve yet to see any reason why would any Democrat choose him as their nominee in Democratic Senate primary. Sure, Specter has massive name recognition, and probably able to win enough moderates and independents in the general election, but having a D next to their name doesn’t automatically guarantee a vote for a strong, liberal agenda (ie. Senator Ben Nelson), or at least those supported by the base for the past twenty years.

Maybe Jonathan Chait is right, Specter is not a moderate, but instead a huge unprincipled hack who follows where the political wins are going; as long as it benefits Specter, he’s there in a heartbeat. Even if the polls did shows the Republican Party was about to throw him out during their primary, it’s not a sure bet the Democrats will not do the same thing. Considering the base itself would rather have a reliable liberal candidate on the ballot, than someones claim to support for political moderation is simply water-downing the economic stimulus package of ‘09, and stripping the fund for necessary flu epidemic preparedness.

Yeah, by the way, how did that workout so far?

Not even by a hair.

In response to Mtv’s almost rhetorical question: the answer is yes. Ali Larter would have been a better far superior Sue Storm, than the craptatistic, but yet still nice to look at, Jessica Alba.

I understand the need for the studio to build more of a diverse audience to see the movie, and before Heroes, I’m pretty sure many people had no idea who Ali Larter was. Ah hell, the only role I remember she had was one of the leather wearing thieves from Kevin Smith’s movie, Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back. But I digress.

It never hurt for the studio hire people who not only looks the part, but also actually knows how to act. But then again, even with Ali Larter in the film, I pretty much doubt she would have made the two movies watchable. Seriously, would somebody please tell me who’s idea was it to have Galactus as a storm cloud? eh..
